Default Vortech

HI all

looking at purchasing a supercharger kit for my car from ebay - it is a vortec V1 kit running 10psi at 5000rpm and l would like to find out the following information.

- what sort of power increase should l get from this kit?

-kit is off a 1985 model car will l have any problems fitting to a 1990 model?

-what signs of ware and tare should l look for when picking this up?
(told its 4years old and only done 1600mile)

any feed back would be great (don't know much about these systems)

you might want to talk to shane, he has an 86 with a vortec that is putting out 10psi. He was telling me he is going to sell it. I dont remember if he has a buyer yet but contact him, his name on the forum is silver86. He has exactly what you are looking for.

If you get 10 PSI... normally with belt slippage and such they average about 6-8 psi with a 6 rib belt...

Rought rule of thumb

14.7 +10 = 24.7 /14.7

= 1.68 pressure ratio so example 10 pounds of boost with 300 hp

You would get ~ 504 at the crank... mind you this is an estimate....

14.7 is atmospheric pressure
10 is boost

the 1.68 ratio of increase.... so you can also use that to figure how much more fuel your are going to need to increase etc, etc. everything by about 1.68

As I said, realistically if you get 8 pounds you should be a happy camper.

14.7 +8 = 22.7

= 1.54 So realistically about 1.5 times ....

Generally they are good just look to see if it appears like the seals have blown, i.e. a lot of oil leaking into the S/C

Hope this helps...

Mo

I would look at ATI ProCarger. It has a 3 year warranty and will work on stock or mod engines. I have had mine for 5 years.

Actually, I'm not really selling the kit anylonger (but, hey, thanks for the plug Chris!). The 10 psi kit for the L-98 from Blowerworks, is rated at 450 hp with headers, larger intake and, of course, all the fuel system upgrades and alky injection. You will want, as I have found out, to install forged pistons. Better to do it ahead of time, instead of having to tear everything apart again, or think about detuning the kit to 8 psi.

As far as interchangabilty, you'll probably need to change the intake tubing to account for the absence of the MAF. Other than that, and a change in lower wheel tub mod, it should be plug and play.

Oh, and I run the supplied 6-rib belt system, and I do get 10 psi at the intake (Chris has seen it) with no belt slippage.
