1993 Radio Issues

1993 Radio Issues
I just purchased a 1993 with 14,000 mi. The front speakers do not work, any suggestions? Also the manual says to use the SCV button to turn on the CD player, but I can't seem to make sense of this request, when I turn the SCV/VOL **** all that happens is the radio volume increases. When I try to insert a CD it just makes a clicking noise. Has anyone had any similar problems? I'm thinking of trashing entire system and replacing with quality radio and speakers.

Sadly, what you describe is par for the course with these cars.

SCV, I believe when turned on, will increase/decrease the volume level based on anticipated road noise.
Stock stereo has it's limits. You can get it rebuilt (way overpriced IMO), but I chose to replace mine. Look into whats involved in replacing it before you choose to do so. ie. single din vs. double din...
