I have an 86 that needs new front + rear rotors and pads. Just need to know where to buy the stock rotors at and for the best price, and what would be a good brake pad for stopping power/with least wear on the rotors. place, part, price, review. all help is appreciated
88 coupe. I just put new bendix rotors and hawk ceramics all around. Big improvement in stopping distance. Don`t get the chinese made rotors. The bendix rotors look like they are made much better.
anyone help me, WHERE DO YOU GET THE BENDIX STOCK ROTORS AT? OR GOOD SOLID STYLE STOCK ROTORS-has anyone had good luck with the ones from ecklers or tire rack PLEASE SOME INPUT IM GOING CRAZY HERE..........................
I have a set of Brembo stock rotors on the front for my 87 (same as you will use) and they are made in Canada. Tire Rack has them for $57 each. These are very good rotors for the price but for some reason, I can't find rear Brembo rotors.
For pads, I use the Hawk HPS semi-metallic pads for street and autocross. Tire Rack has them for both front ($79) and rear ($59). They dust a little but have great cold bite, don't squeal, and are a great improvement over stock pads. Ceramic pads work well but you do need to get some heat in them to get the best performance.
Another brand to consider is Raybestos for pads and rotors. The Raybestos pads are called Brute-Stop (metallic) or Quiet-Stop (ceramic). Try a NAPA store or CarQuest. You can get decent rotors at either of these stores too.
I actually run the cheapie generic "white-box" rotors from China for track days. I can use up a set of front rotors easily with Hawk HP+ pads so I just toss the rotors after an event. I get them thru the shop where I work for about $20 each. I turn them on the shop brake lathe myself to just get a smooth finish and to insure they are true.
While you are swapping pads and rotors, it's a great time to do a complete brake fluid flush. I use Ford Motorsports HD fluid; it's a DOT3 fluid but has a wet boiling point closer to the lower end of DOT4 fluids.
Castrol LMA, Valvoline SynPower are also good. You'll need about a quart to do a flush. Also think about new lines too. I use Earls' stainless braided lines.
You could try RockAuto.com or AutoPartsWarehouse/DiscountAutoParts.com....both those places sell at fairly good prices. Warehouse ships free if order is over $50.00 if I remember right.
I use rockauto alot. They have a nice selection of the Raybestos brake parts, even most of the hardware stuff like the clips & pins & rubber washers for the pins.
The lines you can get at summitt or jegs or most of the local speed shops. I bought the Earls lines from jegs I think.
If you have 17inch amolds or aftermarket 17inch rims on already, you might consider just dumping the old 12 inch rotors and upgrading to c5 brakes on the front. I offer the brackets to upgrade to the c5 rotors, calipers, and pads. You would want the 85-87 kit instead of the 88-96 kit, but they both do the same thing. You get the better rotors (thicker), better calipers (stronger), and a larger choice of pads since its all C5 stuff you will be putting on instead of the older C4 parts.
if you advance auto chain in your area, they sell bendix. dont buy ebc green brake pads, they are an expensive pos. i have found napa in my area to be no better than other stores, only more expensive
I got a set of carbotech bobcat pads when I put J55 brakes on my 87 and I am satisfied with them. They had a deal on pads and rotors.
(J55 rotors are high)

And Hawk HPS pads are great. I get very little brake dust.
