93 Auto transmission problem
Ok, here's what I've got. 93, auto, 159K miles, tranny was rebuild with 100K on it I believe.
Loud whining noise in P and N. Shifts funny (slow/underpowered feeling) when starting from 0 mph. I think in 2nd, it runs the RPMs up kinda high under light throttle (3k rpms) from either 2 to 3 or 3 to 4 it shifts quite hard making a grinding noise. It seems to run fine in 4th.

NO REVERSE!!! R engages but feels like I'm power braking it and does not move an inch. I dont want to apply too much gas as I'm sure that would really mess something up
You likely broke the rear planetary or the lo roller clutch. It should become very clear when it comes apart. Do not drive it. The more you try, the more you will tear up. Hardparts are expensive and you want to minimize damage.
I have to apologize, I visit the C3 forum and thought I was there. You are right, the 6 speed would be the best. It sounds like you have some serious issues with your auto. If you are wanting to stay auto you might want to have it towed to a reputable shop and have it removed. I don't believe I would try to drive it anywhere.
There have been some 6 speed swaps threads lately if you want to spend the bucks.

Keisler is located here in the Knoxville area and are a supporting vendor. I saw a thread on a ZF6 swap that Central Coaster did and someone else. I will look for it for you; in fact, I'm gathering information on it right now myself. I did a T5 5 speed swap in my 79 last year from an auto and it made a tremendous difference!

I dont think the swap to a ZF6 would be a good option for you, but it wouldnt be much different that the swap I did on Michelles car, the only difference would be adding the pedals and mounting the hydraulics......and a lot of time.....
off the top of my head I would guess youd be looking at around 4k in parts if you found some deals......
