4+3. Good or bad tranny?
On the Richmond: I actually did this conversion 2 years ago. Great tranny EXCEPT it is AS NOISY as A DIESEL TRUCKS tranny. This is something nobody ever mentioned. I for one did not want my vette sounding like a diesel truck so I went back to the 4+3...rebuilt OD and trans. I wish the Richmond was as quiet as the 4+3.
Remember, look at your beam. Most beams from the factory had a good deal of dampening compound on them. I've seen people scrape off the compound and then have noises and hums.
What you are paying for is a whole switch assembly. The switch, and a wire harness.
Here are your switch part #'s. This is the same switch used by GM. You can get it from Mouser or I think we still have some kicking around. These are for the switch in the shifter. The late 1985 is different and wired different than the 86-88 with a different connector. Again these are just bare switches.

Overdrive soft parts rebuild kit. ( Clutches, gaskets, seals, filter ) - $95.00
Is this what a person will need to do a rebuild....complete after it "Blows up"?
Forgive me, but I know almost nothing about Transmissions, and at the same time I must DIY everything even in the face certain failure.
My motto, why pay $50 and have professional take a day or two to do it for you, when, You could spend $200 and take a week doing it yourself?
That being said, it seems that my '84 has a weakness that I need to tackle, if a person bought that kit from you is there Tech support?
I rebuilt My Mazda Rotary Motor Last year. I had never seen one before but with the help of the forum and a Video tape it was a snap.
I'd like to also interject that this thread has been very good with a lot of good info. One thing I'd like to see is more info concerning the OD unit itself without detouring off in the direction of replacing the entire tranny. A car this old and as you stated....with the prices dropping to what they are now. ($2000-$6000) all that is left is the owner that will do the repairs themselves. A $5k swap to a Nash 6 speed or whatever is never going to happen in a car worth ~$3k
Does 5speed have tech support like that? Could a person make a rebuild video found on Youtube? I'm not asking you to do it. But I like to chronicle anything I do. I would need tech support if I made a video.
and lastly, can one get a date with the redhead on your website?

Q: Do you have another shifter button that you could sell at a flat fee? I already have a few spare switches. TIA Artie
A: I suggest you bid on this one. It ends today.
He wants a switch yet fails to bid on the one he is looking at.
Paul, thanks for support, you've been great.
