Default Question about BBK 58MM TB?

I am looking at buying a used 58 MM TB. However I noticed that on the BBK site, there a a few part #'s listed.

1534 - Twin 52mm 1985-88 305/350 TPI
1536 - Twin 58mm 1985-88 305/350 TPI
1537 - Twin 52mm 1989-92 305/350 TPI
1539 - Twin 58mm 1989-92 305/350 TPI
1540 - Twin 52mm 1992-93 LT-1
1542 - Twin 58mm 1992-93 LT-1
1543 - Twin 52mm 1994-97 LT-1
1544 - Twin 58mm 1994-97 LT-1

My car is in storage. Does anyone have pics of the linkage difference from the 85-88 TPI to the 89-92 TPI?

http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/at...p-pict0221.jpg

The above is the TB that was in his 1989 Camaro however he mentioned that it was part #1536. He might of changed the linkages if that is possible.

Does anyone have some pics of the linkages that I will need. I am assuming I will need a 58 MM for a 383 that should put out in the area of 390rwhp? Also what's a good price to buy a used TB? And what do you guys think of the quality of BBK?

I just purchased a "Summit" 58mm it came with both throttle assemblies that are user changable, it is very high quality.

Hope this helps....

Linkages can not be changed on BBK, must be correct part # for your year model.
One in pic appear correct for early cars.
What style does '88 have?

My '87 has the cable attaching to directly a stud as shown in the pic while on my '89 and later the cable has a pressed end that hooks into the linkage and the cable lays around a quadrant.
Pm me with your address if you want pics.

General option on this forum is BBK is alright for price several have had sticking blade problems but other more expensive TB are considered to be better made.

Make sure you get the year you need. We ended up getting the wrong one sent and when we got to bolt it on found the linkage and the TPS was different(couldn't send it back past 30days). So had to change the trottle cable out (kinda PITA) and then off to O' Reilys to match up the connector to hook up the tps. Just a lesson learned!! wro87

Check before buying.
I have '87, '89 , and '90 models , linkages as stated in my post.
I do not know when the change was made, '88 was a strange year for some parts

Rick why dont u sent ur's to tpis and let them bored to 52mm 58mm and install new bearings, i know it cost u same as buying new but the advantage over my 52mm BBK is the outer ring (oval shape) is larger than original TB so putting coupler is pain in a$$ it dont slip easy.

Even pete k has 58mm TB which is bored to 58mm not the new BBK or anything, i think its bored to 58mm by Tpis iam not sure though.

Edit: if u want to save ur's than u can have mine from 85 (if it fits and have same linkages which i believe) send it to tpis for making 58mm. I will give u mine for free and i will ship it to tpis and let them send to Mos90 in NY. Ur choice.

Nope. About 10 years ago, I ordered a brand new Lingenfelter 58 mm billet throttle body. I felt that the $305 shipped price was too high. Looks like bargain pricing compared to todays prices.

Rick

If you check the TPIS website I think that the 58mm throttle body is a new casting that's why it's $500.00.

I ended up getting the Arizona Speed & Marine for their (current I think) sale price of like $440 or so. It's a very nice billet piece, but if I were to do it over, I'd definately spend the extra money elsewhere and get a BBK instead.

Recently installed an Edelbrock 58mm unit. Very nice. It only needed a tweak of the idle screw to work perfectly (fortunately an allen head). A light coating of Mobil 1 around the lip of the intake tubing will help a lot sliding it over a 58mm TB.

I chose it over BBK because of the mods needed to get the BBK to mate up properly. I would link you to Jim Mason's (96GS#007) excellent tutorial but apparently www.grandsportregistry.com requires a minimum $35 fee to see it. The tech tip is : http://www.grandsportregistry.com/me...e_body_mod.htm

Bad GSregistry, BAD!

Did you know Edelbock makes the BBK TB? Could you cut and paste that link or send it to my email at rhueson@rogers.com?
