Replaced the outside temp. sensor today, the outside temp reads a consistant 50* which is not correct in Phoenix today, however when I start the car the light above the auto button begins to flash. Went through the Fault Codes received an 03 is the system now telling me the inside temp sensor is bad also?
If you have the Factory Service Manual (FSM)for the Model Year (MY) 90, (the year listed on your profile) go to page 1C1-2. I assume you are getting the Ambient Sensor Open code from the C68 panel.
The 50 degree F value is the default value provided by the software should an open circuit exist. My car had this occur when the outside temp sensor was not replaced during a repair. Check the schematic on page 1C1-11 for resistance and voltage requirements.
Shooting from the lip, I'd say trace the wires from terminal B (black wire) on sensor and check connections. On page 8A-68-1, electrical supplement, provides a list of connections and splices. You basically need to check for the 5 volt source voltage at the sensor, and the ground circuit. Please note the sunload sensor, in-car temp sensor, and outside air temp sensor share a common ground at splice S223 going to the common ground at connector C16.
I suspect you have the FSM. Gotta find the wires, check the voltage/resistance, find out what is going on.
The outside temp reading is 50* which assumed was a default. However I do not have a Factory Service Manual only a Haynes 1984-1996 which does not provide much information on 1990's. By narrowing down the possibilities; remove the unit from dash, replace the outside sensor, only item open is the inside temp setting. Thanks for the help you just validated my progression.
