I didn't receive a transmitter when i bought my car so i ordered a replacement
and received it today. I followed the instructions for programing and it seemed
to go smooth, the hatch release works fine but the door locks just click and
moves the lock slightly. if you hold the lock button they cycle lock unlock once.
any suggestions ? thanks, Paul
Mine does the same thing. When you press the the button to lock or unlock you can hear something try to move but the lock only twitches. The passenger side works fine. I havent had time to look at it.
Paul,
Not sure I understand the problem, but if you are trying to select which door/doors will unlock put the key in the ignition, donot turn "on" & hold the door button on your FOB until the locks cycle the way you want them.
I know with the PKE turned on and the key fob is within range the doors will periodically unlock. This is to prevent manually locking the doors and then shutting the doors with the key fob in the car.
Try shutting the doors (with them unlocked) and walking away from the car. Do they lock automatically? If so, PKE is turned on. If you don't want PKE then look in the owners manual, there is a procedure on how to turn the PKE on and off.
Walking away from the car should automatically lock the car and beep the horn, walking up to the car the doors will unlock. If this isn't happening the PKE might be turned off, to turn it on stand next to the car with all doors closed, hold the door button on the fob for 2 or more seconds, the doors should lock then unlock; now it's on, walk away and see if it arms.
Also, check that the battery in the fob is good....
If it still doesn't arm then rip the useless system out of there and replace it with a real alarm that isn't annoying as hell anytime you are walking by your car several times in a row.....
The battery in my fob was dying so I stopped by Radioshack to pick up a replacement. When I got home I found that it didn't fit correctly, the original battery had a ridge on it that the new one didn't have but I was able to snap the covers together anyway. I went out to the car to get the manual so that I could reprogram, but I didn't have to. As I approached the car the doors unlocked. I stepped away and the alarm armed itself. I tried this several times and it worked as if I had never changed the battery. I'm
I am having the exact same problem (can do a search under dizwiz24 to find my post).
My PKE works fine, but when I turn the PKE off(by holding the lock/unlock button on the keyfob for a while), and just try to use the keyfob to lock/unlock the door, the drivers side door cycles, and only the passenger door will lock or unlock.
Weird huh? If anybody figures it out please let me know. Its a minor annoyance(I don't carry the keyfob because of it, and I hate PKE anyways), but since this car is a Corvette it would be nice to say everything works...
Does anybody know if the drivers side door will lock with the keyfob button (with PKE turned off) if the key is in the ignition...Maybe the key sensor is stuck making the system think the key is in the ignition and as a safety to disable the lock on the drivers side door(so you won't lock the keys in the car), and only let the passenger side work.

This is to be expected. When you reprogram the system you are teaching the car's computer the identity of the Fobs. All of the fobs are unique and this doesn't change just because they lose the battery power.

Cool! I thought if the battery died, I'd have to reprogram. Thanks.

Re: 1996 keyless entry problem (RIC96)
I also discovered that battery replacements did not fit correctly due to the new battery not having the recessed ridge. I placed a piece of 1/4 inch thick weather strip foam tape on top of the battery and snapped the cover down. That holds it in place nicely without risking forcing it into place and breaking something.
