Default Clutch slave ??

1989, I am a fair amateur mechanic. I have read a few threads on this subject and concluded I have a leaky clutch slave. I could not locate a new unit but did find a rebuild kit on ebay. I removed a cylindrical switch (back up?) next to the slave for access and assume that it will just screw back in later. The slave is mounted on two studs, the nuts came off easily but it appears that the studs need to come out to get room to remove the slave and get a wrench on the line fitting. The studs need a torx external socket to remove so I will get a set. Should I anticipate any issues removing the studs or installing the rebuild kit other than making sure I put the o ring in the correct direction? Thanks.

You should be fine unless there is pitting in the cylinder body. From your question it sounds like you have "read up" on the subject.

There's a short steel rod that is in between the slave and the clutch fork. Make sure you don't lose it. Assuming of course the 89's the same as the 88's

I would make the suggestion that if you have not been to zfdoc.com please go & read up on what Bill has to say. I think it will be useful to you. He makes suggestions about "how to's" that are valuable.

On another note. I've a 90 & I can't see that there should be much difference from your 89 to my 90. I was able to loosen the line before removing the nuts from the studs. It's tight up there & I used a line or flair wrench. They usually are shorter in lenght than a std open-end wrench. I also was able to manouver the slave out....took a bit o moving around...without the studs or anything else being removed. However, you do what is easiest for you....I'm just saying that the slave will come out without removing anything else, on my 90 at least.

Sorry, one more thing. Most dealers that are out of stock will say the target is June/July for availibility. It is my understanding that whatever is left in the system is NOS, with all the defects. I believe that applies to the parts stores also.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I had checked out zfdoc and it brought my comfort level up. I am guessing some differences between 89 and 90 since I cannot get a line wrench on or remove the slave with the studs in. Good excuse to buy a set of external torx sockets which I have never needed before.
