Default Fuel sending units compatible?

In need of a new fuel sending unit for the 87. Which years will work besides the 87. I know they all look the same but are the tank level sending units compatible with other years?

I used one from a '94 in my '89. It has been working fine.

In 88,I believe they changed the return line to a 3/8 which is the same size as the feed line hose.

On your 87,youll notice the return hose and line at the sender is smaller than the fuel feed.I think 85-87 used similar sizes. After 88 it was larger at the return line.
I forget the size of the smaller line on the earlier TPI cars.

Go take a look at the top of the tank and see if what Im saying is correct for your car.You could possibly use a sender from a 88 and up,but the stock fuel hose on the 87 return line will need to be PUSHED hard onto the larger sender tube the newer units have.Im not sure if thats a good idea or if it will fit without cracking the hose.

Just wanted to pass this along,I may be off a year or specs, but there IS a change on the sending units tubes Im aware of,but its been a few years since Ive messed with the tanks on them cars.

If you are looking for one, I have no idea what year will fit what.

If you have one....have you thought about cleaning the contacts before spending money on a different one?

Yes, I already cleaned the contacts. Only problem is when I bent the little metal tabs they just fell off. So there was no way to secure the cover to the rest of the housing. So for now I have it wired up with safety wire. It seems to be fine, but I rather replace if possible, or at least have a spare handy.
