My suggestions are, if oyu dont have to take it off, dont take it off (e.g. converted lt1 or headers without the egr lines). I have read that it doesnt really add any power and will more than likely mess up the very touchy computer. So I would leave it unless you do something that requires to get rid of it.

Your EGR (and the one on the Iron-headed L98), is unique in that it pulls the exhaust gas internally, and doesn't have a tube coming from the headers. I believe most guys eliminate their EGR system, when they buy headers. You don't have that problem. Besides, a properly-working EGR system is off at WOT (so I can't believe it effects performance).

Working properly it lowers combustion chambers.
When it fails, it can cause all kinds of fun driveability problems (such as your car not being able to hold an idle).

EDIT: I was referring to the '85's iron heads, I should have specified

I have an iron headed l98 and it has a pipe from the headers. I think I remember you having a crossfire right? I would make sure to see what you have before you do anything, thats for sure.

The same as removing it on an old intake manifold. Nada. Zip. Nimo neitz. Nothing.
