Default Alarm Hassel

1990 Convertable
Every time I unlock the door on the drivers side the alarm goes off, so I began unlocking the passengers door to open the drivers door also.
Now the alarm goes off when I open the passengers door, needless to say this is a pain as I must stand there turning the key backwards and
forwards until the alarm (horns) stop. Help

Guys, correct me if I am wrong but I believe you need to replace the switches on the cylinder this activates/deactivates the alarm. I bet these are giving you the problems.

Yes, there's a rotational switch in there that contacts and disarms it when turning the key. I took my door apart and cleaned mine with brake cleaner and now it works.

Have not removed the door panel on this car previously, how difficult of a task is this on a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being the most difficult?
Thanks for the help

I just did mine. And it is the easiest of any door panel I have ever removed. I would give it a 2.

Is the switch plugged in on the side that you took apart, and is everything connected? Check the fuse. Have you armed the alarm with the window down and reached in to open the door to see if the alarm triggers?

The power door lock circuit is protected by a circuit breaker located on the passenger side end of the dash in the main fuse panel. There is also an auxiliary fuse panel (contains 4 fuses) located under the passenger side footwell area under the dash. Need to drop the black plastic footwell cover which has the footwell courtesy light attached to it.

The power door lock switches have 12 volts going to them at all times so you should disconnect the negative battery terminal if you're taking the door panel off. Reconnect the negative battery terminal to do any testing.

Note as was mentioned both switches must be in the circuit for the power door locks to work.
