Default zz4 swap

next month me and my father are swapping a zz4 into his 86 auto. o know i need to swap the water pump, dist, and intake. anything else we will need to swap from the old block? will we need to run a custom chip or 160 t-stat? and i would like to replace the vacum lines at the same time. anybody know where i can buy them? i work at a gm dealership and they are discontinued. anything else we should be aware of?

thanks for the help

I buy my vacuum lines at pet boys. They come off a big spool and sell them by the lineal foot. With a little heat you can get those lines to bend for you

ZZ4 won't make the advertised 330 hp using a stock TPI intake.

I Realize It Wont Make The Claimed 355 Hp. But That Doesn't Concern Us.

You will need to have a chip burned due to the cam. I have that cam in my 87.

No you wont! I have the ZZ4 in my 86, running stock TPI and computer - runs great - no problems - you will notice the big increase in power.

sooner or later you may want to look at going with a manifold upgrade - and a programable chip - but for now:
swap it in
plug it in
- get in -
and punch it!

If memory serves, the balancer on the zz4 is a neutral 8 inch. If so, swap your existing 6 3/4 balancer on it.
I ran a zz3 motor from 1992-1996 with stock programing and no issues. After 70k, I pulled it to build a 383 stroker. Running stock programming on it as well.

It will run with a stock chip, but a good reburn will make a real difference. Why not get the most out of it ??

I put a ZZ4 in my '91 Z28 with an L98. It ran perfect with a basic (not customer) hypertech chip and 160 thermostat. Got in the low 13s with it like that and it weighed just at 3800 lbs. Obviously a custom chip would be ideal.

You will need to use the stock items that you have listed.

I ran the ZZ4 balancer with mine, but that was in an F-body. I don't know if you will have room in a Y-body.

I ran to run a 6-3/4 Dampner on mine when it was a ZZ4.
