Once you remove the foam portion you are left with the adhesive which can be a bear to get off. I have seen weatherstrip adhesive remover in Napa I believe, I can not tell you how well it works others may, when I did my WS replacement I took the tracks off and media blasted them and then had them powder coated. I also recommend using the black 3M adhesive for installation, works better than the yellow/clear stuff.

I also removed my w/s retainers and reveal moldings and cleaned them up and repainted them, I used some x-axto knife scrapers and a couple of home made scrapers to get the adnesive out. I don't remember if I used a solvent like MEK or googone. I think they are all going to be about the same, it is just a long job.
I didn't actually use any glue to hold the w/s in, I just put it in the retainer. I used 3M bedding and glazing compound under the retainers and at the corners.

KeyWestJack: There are two "easy" ways to remove the old weatherstrip glue. One is to use a heat gun and the other is to use 3M weather stripping remover. The factory glue will just "turn loose" when heat is applied to the joint. Removal otherwise is very difficult. Most auto paint stores have the 3M glue removal product.
