Default World Products heads?

Hi. I have an 85 with stock heads which does not perform as I want.
I am looking on getting new heads for a reasonable price. I was recommended the World Products cast iron heads, either Torquer or Sportsman II heads. The torquer heads has 170cc intake runners and the Sportsman II heads 200cc intake runners. They have fastburn chambers, but only integral cast iron valve guides which I am a bit sceptical to.
Do anybody have any experience with them or have heard good or bad rumours about them.

We used a set of torquer 170 heads in the mid ninety's. They were decent and were not very expensive. I would not worry about the intergral guides. That is how a stock gm iron head leaves the factory. Bronze liners are a simple way to repair them many years later if they ever wear out.

Two more cents on the Dart heads......I used them on an '88 350 in my boat & was very pleased. I think I bought the "sportsman" heads if I remember right? Old age stinks!

Anyway I used then for a couple thousand hours and they worked fine with no issues at all. I felt I got very good value for the $ paid for the heads.

If you use the torquers at least have the bowls worked over, they are basically a stok repacement head. Dont expect to see big power gains just bolting them on. If it were me Id save a little more and get a better flowing head unless you are just looking for a "new" replacement thats cost effective.

I have heard that the new GM Vortec cast iron heads are reasonably priced and are flowing close to AFR heads (not the new ones just on the market). You will not have a weight reduction aluminum vs cast iron. I am in no way an expert on this, but it does sound worth some research.

Actually I have read that cast iron guides are better for street use.

Years ago I had a 327 and bought Sportsman II heads, the 200cc runner, I don't have any hard data but I dropped a full second from the stockers. No problems what so ever.

Hi. again.
Thanks for all the input. It seems that they are ok for the price then. I will see how I will do it because changing the heads tobetter ones need changing the intake. I have the stock and try to get a TPIS or alike to get more air in.

Dart is a different company than World Products.
But nevertheless, they both make pretty nice cast iron replacements.
As far as GM vortec heads, last I checked you couldnt get them with 2.02/1.60 valves. so by the time you bought the heads, and did the machine work, you were better off going with the aftermarket heads.

I have the World Products iron heads on a 383 stroker in my 61. 202/160. The car is an animal and uses no oil. I have not heard anything negative about them from anyone.

I had the "Sportsman II" heads on my 87 Iroc w/383. They were ported and the motor made 450hp/450tq on the dyno. Never had a issue with them.

Default World heads

there is a version of these heads that have a small combustion chamber and 170 cc intake runners. Have your engine man buy the bare heads and buy valves and every thing else from others. The valves that the complete heads are shipped with are not real good.
