Just got done with all the upgrades to my 85. New headers, 52mm throttle body, accell intake. I had a new chip burned to accomidate this. Let me add that after the upgrades the car ran great with the stock chip. But I want to squeeze out all the hp I can. When I put the new chip in aas soon as I turned the key the dash went crazy. When I started the car the check engine light was flashing. It wasn't flashing a code it was flashing faster than a turn signal would. I tried to put the car in diagnostic mode and it would not even read code 12. When I went to drive the car it was backfiring in the motor and had no power. I put the stock chip in and everything was normal again. I read the codes again and got code 12 like normal. I bought it from pcm for less. Is it possible they didn't program something right?
Well pull the chip back out... I bet when you installed the new chip one of the prongs bent over and is not seated in the ecm.... I bet ya!!!! My new chip did the same thing.... bent prong If a prong aint bent ... the chip is hosed....
Good Luck Don

If the check engine light is flashing 90 to nothing fast... that means the ecm is not communicating with the chip... if the prongs aint bent... the chip is hosed.... I got my chip from Harris Performance... www.tbichips.com .. No problems so far. I also have a 85.

I have an 85vette. On an 85 there is no way you can screw it up. There is no adapter. You pull the old chip out and put the new one in and it can't fit backwards. I double checked that.
This is exactly what my car did when I had a brain fart the last time I was at the track.
My car takes a piggyback that I am supposed to install between the stock chip and the ecm.
I thought I would quickly install the piggyback and do back to back runs to get exact results of the stock chip vs aftermarket.
I forgot to install the chip and tried running the car with only the piggyback installed.
I didn't realize what I had done wrong until I was driving home from the track.
I guess I'll try again in the spring.
I don't know if this will help you or not. Just seemed like the exact same symptoms.
Maybe your chip was erased somehow or the data was alterred.
Did you sit it on a magnet?
Thanks for all the input. From the sounds of it they will take care of the problem. I hope you guys are right. I will let you Know what happens with it.
