Default Oil Change Time

OK I am getting ready to do my pre summer oil change. In the past I have run Mobil 1 5w40. I am thinking of running the Mobil 1 10w40 due to the weather here in South Carolina. Any thoughts or issues I might be missing. As always, thannks in advance.

If it's a stocker, and street-driven only, Mobil 1 5-W30 would be my recommendation.

Be well,

The manual for my 92 recommends 10/30 for temps from 0 degrees up.

The "General" put in Mobil 1 5W30 from the factory. Go with what got you here.

I would go with which ever was cheaper bc there is very little difference between them
If the same price just go with what the manual says

I'm not sure what weather it is in S. Carolina that you're concerned about, but I'll assume heat & humidity. I grew up in GA, so I know how hot it can be. That said, the south has *nothing* on AZ in July (except humidity), and I always ran 5w30 when living there. If people in AZ and SoCal run 5w30 sans problems, you certainly don't need 5w40. Switching to 10W-anything from 5W-same will only cause more wear at startup. You want the least-thick oil at startup as possible.

Here's some good reading for you:

(The following is a single chapter from a multi-chapter series written by Dr. Ali Haas and posted on FerrariChat.com. I am citing it because I think it does an excellent job of breaking down complex principles (for some) into "layman's terms.")

I went with Royal Purple 5w-30 and my car actually feels better. It revs alot smoother. JMO
