I'm not trying to be an a$$. Please fill out your profile. The year and stuff would be helpful.

how many miles?

simple recommendation for a reliable car not too expensive package thats not high maint. would be typical: quoting rough retail prices Parts and labor
hot cam- 2000
if auto not more than 218/224 @050 unless you want to rebuild it-1500, if manual then clutch with SMF conversion: 2000
new internals: springs lifters pushrods... etc 1000-1500
since youll be in there, new seals, dist. water pump, plugs/wires. 1500
LT headers with cats, 2.5" mandrel exhaust with x pipe 2000-3500
set of rear end gears.... 1000-1250
and a good tune- either LT1 edit or pcmforless. 500-750

dont do anything else major like heads youll spend a **** load of money 2-3G's inst. for only a few more ponys ... it gets expensive quick
just stick to cam/gears/exh/clutch-or-trans/ and a good professional tune and you will easily hit your 400 hp goal. this will put you deep into twelves... plus with this set up you will be seriously fighting for traction so why make it worse with heads?

i will star a thread soon for everyone to look at my rebuild and to help you with ideas.
im redoing my 96 LT4's chassis/susp/drivetrain/motor/paint/int... so far 2500 paint, about 9500 parts at dealer cost(not retail) and atleast 150-200 hours work to do

good luck keep us informed with your decision

if you need place recommendations i know quite a few parts places to look that are affordable

You don't need an intake.

Heads, cam and exhaust.
