Starting up w/ A/C on?
Does anyone else have a problem starting up their 'Vette with the A/C on?
When my A/C is on and I try to start the '88 up, the engine RPMs dip all the way down to about 1000-2000 and the engine almost dies. It doesn't really even out, unless I turn the A/C off. I've had this problem ever since I bought it back in July of '05.
I know that the A/C puts strain on the engine and there is a loss of performance, but I've never seen a V8 engine, which wasn't powerful enough to hold the A/C!!

it sounds like the IAC and/or TPS are a bit out of wack. The AC should not be on when the engine starts, but will kick in as soon as the engine completes the starting process.
The fix to me is to turn off the AC before starting and monitor the situation.

But I brought up the issue, because I had my car in the shop last weekend and they unplugged the battery. When they plugged it back in, the A/C seemed to want to default to be on. That's when I noticed that the problem was still there.
I want to sell this car sometime in the near future to upgrade to a C5 (if the price suits me) and want to make sure that whoever gets the car after me doesn't have the same C4 experience, which I've had so far
(Kind of like.. clean up after the effects of old age).~Derek
