Most lt1's like 24-2600 and up. You definately want a lock up converter. You have lock up now.
I do not know where to buy one in Arizona. Maybe a local shop can offer a supplier.

How are you guys getting these cars to hook up with a converter. Mine is a 383 with a stock converter and it boils the tires. I can only imagine what it would do with a converter in it.

PeteK gives you good advice...I have a 93 as well with minor mods...I run a 3200 stall lock up Vigilante..wonderful street manners and hits good at the drag strip...

You need to look at how you plan to use the car...if you street drive it most of the time 2400 to 2800 will do you fine...if you drag race a lot you can go higher...a non-lock up converter is really for drag strip cars that are trailered to the track...driving around with a non lock up converter will fry your tranny pretty quickly...

One thing you did not mention is your differential...if you still have the Dana 36, be very careful coming out of the hole with a higher stall converter...one decent hook and you'll kill that diff...remember, another name for a torque converter is a torque multiplier and torque kills Dana 36's....

Side question...

Do all converters have a stall speed?

Do the converters generate any measurable pressure under the stall speed, or only above that speed?

never fryed any of the 3 trannys we had running from a non lockup smoking the tranny mine trans behind a 406 that ran 10.90s a 434 that ran 10.20s or my 355 running 10.70s
or 85vetts car running one of the fastest 383 combos in the country or behind skidwnit 434 running 10 teens now if you look at these three combos all ran non lockups and all running very strong and getting 20+ mpg on all of them

It will slip(converter internals) a little bit when climbing hill. This will make the rpm slip up a little bit more under load. It will also create more heat in the trans. Not terrible, but it will add heat. A cooler will counter some of the heat.

my 85 vette also runs a 2200 stall non lock up, its a street car with a built 700r4 it has no problems, heat, slipage etc. also has a 375 hp, imo a lock up converter is a weak link, non lock up is better.

I'll let you guys battle with every tranny guy I've ever spoken with...they all say driving a car on the street with a non-lock up will put a lot of heat in the tranny and eventually kill it...btw, when I say street driven I don't mean a little jaunt around town, mind you...I'm talking driving it up to 10 hours on Interstates to an event and then back home...

I drive my 3200 stall 5 hours on the interstate roundtrip to race a lot...I drove it 7 hours each way to race in South Carolina and I will be driving it 11 hours each way to richmond in two days to race and then drive home...that is what I mean by street driven so my bad for not clarifying myself...lol

how about driving over 200 miles each way from pittsburgh to carlisle and back every year how about sitting in pittsburgh rush hour traffic maybe going 2 miles in an hour and half if thats not testament i dont know what is oh 1 more driving from pittsburgh to salem drag strip then to summit racing then back about 300 miles round trip getting over 20+ mpg how about driving from bowling green kentucky to jack daniels plant in lynchburg tennesee in 90+ degree heat over 300 miles round trip if you do not think this is testamant i dont know what you are talking about my converter was behind my 406 for two years 434 two years and 355 going on two years
