Default exaust question

somone told me a cheap way to make my 89 corvette louder and have more power is to remover the mufflers. is this a good idea? if so how do i remover them from the y pipe, they are stuck on even when the clamp is removed. they are not welded correct? iF this is a stupid idea what is a good cheap exaust setup that i can get?

this is a good idea but first you will have to find some eliminator pipes so your exhaust is not exiting under your car it will come right into the car with you and that is not good I recently did this mod to my 86' and it sounds mean yet still streetable you can get eliminator pipes off of corvettecentral.com. As for your trouble with getting the old mufflers off you will have to use a cutting torch, if you do not have one take it to your local muffler shop they should cut them off for a reasonable fee

The reason the mufflers don't come off with the clamps removed is because when the clamps got tightened, they bent the pipe. Heat is needed to get them off with ease. I'm getting rid of my flowmasters in favor of eliminators.
