Default A/C delete question

The more and More I look at the A/C unit on this vette the more I wonder. I have an 86E and I was wondering if I removed the A/C compressor will my heater still work. I will be moving back to ohio after this year and always drive with the windows down and top off whenever I can. But I still need the heater and defrost. I was wondering if I took the compressor out if my heater would still work. I ask because I have never messed with a GM until now and since the A/C isn't working anyway thought I'd just remove the thing.

Thanks ahead of time for the help.

Yes, the heater will work fine without the A/C. The car might fog up when it rains without A/C though, depends on how humid it gets there.

hi there teufelhund,
i removed my a/c as well!
less cluter under the hood!
yes my heater still works ok!
as far as removing a/c, i gutted the a/c compressor and left the frame of it but re dsigned the shape of the bracket/trimed it and now there is just the gutted single pulley running from the a/c bracket so you dont have to get a shorter belt!
then just removed all the a/c pipes ,hoses,!
any can be done, works out all rite!
cheers

On my '94:
8 lbs - A/C condenser
5.5 lb - A/C lines and accumilator
15 lbs - A/C compressor

I also removed the evaporator, evap housing, and blower motor, but I didn't weigh them. You will have to keep the blower motor and evap housing if you want to keep your heater.

I'm planning on just running this bracket instead so I don't have to do all the work and it will save me alot of weight.

Here is a picture of the AC delete braket that you show in the ebay auction installed in my car. I installed one on my 85 vette a couple years ago when I removed the AC system. I use my car for track only. The heater and defrost still work.

hi there guys,
gees great link,thanks!!!
i wanna buy one!
much smaller/better than using modifed a/c bracket!

what model bracket do i need to buy of the e-bay site though please?

i have a 1991 corvette not a 1985 model or so,or are they the same fit please?

how do you buy from the e-bay site as i tried to click on the pulley to buy and there is no sell pop up screen to buy it?

is there any other website/contact details to buy this delete bracket?
thanks

Got rid of my AC and now I can actually work on the engine! I never use AC here so it works for me. Car is lighter too. Reinforced the AC bracket where the compressor used to be with some cross bolts. --- replaced the pulley on the tensioner with a ribbed unit from a GM Berreta (1986, I have the p/n) and got a shorter belt. No need for a pulley where the AC use to be.

There's an even easier way to remove eve more clutter under the hood. On my 84 I removed the AC compressor and the Air pump. Then, if you buy an 82 vette water pump (which spins the standard direction, not reverse like the 84-91 pump) you can just run a belt up from the crank, around the water pump to the alternator, down to the steering pump and back to the crank. I made a bracket for the alternator that has a slot for tensioning like old alternators did. This eliminates the A/C, air pump, tensioner, and all the brackets on the passenger side.

There's an even easier way.

This works on 86-88 ONLY I believe.

Remove A/C

No need for a delete pulley OR new water pump.

Just run the belt throught the tensioner BACKWARD.

It does not care which way it spins.

You will need a shorter belt.

Cut the belt. weave it through as I described. Measure. Buy a new belt.

Done.
