I am thinking of buying an ATI unit for my 91, but I would like to see some PICS of an install on a 85-91 TPI car. I am wondering where they move the alternator to and where the intercooler is mounted. Also I would like to know where I can find a vendor that sells for less than the ATI posted price.
I don't suppose I can talk you out of this :nonod:
I bought mine about 3 years ago, and I cannot locate the name of the place I got it from. It was much cheaper than buying it from ATI, by a few hundred $$$. It was a small performance shop in New England. It ships directly from ATI, took about 6 weeks.
The intercoolers mount in the capartment under the head lights. You remove the vacuum storage bottle and coolent overflow that are now there on each side. They are replaced buy a little box that goes where your air filter was.
The alternator flips and mounts to the new brackets that ATI supplies.
I can't find my pictures right now  If I can find some I'll post them.
Sure you wouldn't want to spend the $4G on heads/cam :yesnod:
When I bought mine I got it from http://www.performancess.com/ It took about 2-3 weeks to get it and it was a few hundred dollars cheeper than going directly through ATI
My experience with ATI tends to make me recommend going the heads/cam route. Here is the short version:
1. ATI Customer Service sucks.
2. You really need an excellent tuner to make the package work properly. It is not just a bolt on.
3. The position of the air filter makes it suck hot air int off the exhaust manifold.
4. Some people, although not me, had reliability problems with the unit. Multiple rebuilds, etc.
5. The boost that ATI delivers once installed is not what they advertise. i.e., the horsepower they promise is not delivered. This because the pulley slips. Some people change out the pulley to oversome this problem.
Like I said, for the amount you need to spend to get this unit working properly, you can easily do heads/cam and have just as much, if not bigger hp improvement.

Flame Red
That would be Auburn Performance in Auburn, MA. They are the only dealer around for ATI. I tried to get my buddy's shop signed on as a vendor but they only allow one vendor within a 50 mile radius, even though to get to Auburn is a huge PITA from where I'm at. I was going to buy one but ended up doing a mild 383 with AFR heads for about the same money.
