Default Trans Fluid Leak under radiator?

Hi everyone,

My '86 coupe which has been covered and garaged all winter now has a leak. There is transmission fluid on the garage floor. The funny thing is it is way up in the front of the car, almost under the radiator. Is there a cooling hose or something up there? The garage is kinda dark, and it is really hard to see where it is coming from.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Rich

Check your transmission cooling lines.

Are you sure it's tranny fluid and not your power steering fluid? My rack has been leaking all winter and it comes out right about where you're describing since the rack is right in front of the fan and radiator. It'd be worth a check!

Even in a poorly lit garage, you can see it better than we can. Have you thought of using a flash light?

hhmm...you know what, I guess this did sound kinda stupid...yes, I have tried a flashlite, but I can get to that side of the garage, as it is backed against the wall, and kinda pinned, by the C5 right next to it...what I was asking is, are there cooling lines that pass thru that are kinda hard to see.....and is it common to have leaks if there is?

All automatic transmission equipped cars that I know of, and certainly all A4, C4s, have a trans cooler in the right side of the radiator. The cooler lines are steel and they run from the right side of the trans, along the right side of the engine to the right side of the radiator. Trans cooler and trans cooler line leaks aren't common, but...

Although the cooler lines can leak, they almost never do.

OK, guys..thanks for the input...once the guy moves the C5 out of the way, and I can get in there, I'll be able to get it straighten out...no point at guessing.....thanks again....I guess this was a stupid question in the first place.....sorry

No prob man! Mine actually had a leak at the lower trans. cooler line. I had sprayed it several times while working on other projects and then loosened it. I guess I didn't fully tighten it because it leaked a little. It was pretty froze. I loosened to install a trans. cooler, witch I am part way through doing. Huge snows here the last few days, haven't been able to get to the shop. It could rust there or if you hit or ran over something, it could damage there to.
