Cam upgrade
I am in the process of buying a short block and then adding new parts to it to replace the motor in my 86, my question is: If I upgrade my cam, will the MAF sensor over ride the new cam and make the car sound and run normal, I've been told yes it will, and I've been told that it will not. What should my cam choice be to get a little rumble from the car?

Uh no, nothing you've posted makes any sense. MAF isnt going to smooth out a choppy cam if thats what you mean, but the car will run better with a MAF and a lopey cam than it would if it was a SD (later years) car.
If you ever change a cam, you should have your chip reprogrammed, that is what fixes the idle and tip-in/part throttle issue.

I'm going to put an Edlebrock intake on the new motor, stock fuel rails, I do not have to pass any emissions test, new headers, undecided on the brand. The original heads (aluminum) have been rebuilt to original specks. I was told not to upgrade the cam, because the MAF would smooth it out. I want the car to be a little lopey

my site has a few suggestions on cam choice with combinations similar to that
If its the original 86 heads, those need to be changed out if iron. If aluminum, they need a little portwork if you can afford it. A good choice for a TPI motor would be something like the Accel 211 or TPiS ZZ9, but they are rollers and 86 is hyd flat tappet cam, so you'll just need to look for something with roughly similar specs.
It will need a chip done to run perfectly.
