To avoid power loss due to exhaust restriction you need about 2.2cfm of flow for each hp generated, e.g. on a 300chp LT1 you need to flow 660cfm total or 330cfm on each side. But cats that will flow more than your requirements.

In some circumstances a low restriction exhaust with high flow cat can throw an EGR code. The EGR requires exhaust backpressure to bleed off vacuum and close.
I've never had this problem though.
You simply can't beat the Carsound cat for the price & performance. It's made by magnaflow, several ebay vendors sell them for $50-$60 for a 3", and all flow tests I've seen it flows the same as a Random Tech.

Interesting theory. I dyno tested a set of CarSound cats on a car making around 330 rwhp and up to 5000 rpm there was for all practical reasons no effect. Over that there was a mild loss of power up to about 5-6 hp.

Put the car on the dyno today to retune and very, very much to my surprise, there is a leak in one of my Hookers that is throwing off the car making full power. Need to remove the headers to see where the leak is as it may be where I had the headers port matched to my heads. If that is the case, then it's my fault for being hp greedy.
However, if it's were the pipes merge, then it's another story as I had another set of Hookers leak in the same spot. Souldn't say anything until I have the proper evidence, but I'm a little leary right now regarding Hooker headers as that would be two sets in a row.
