....it was 34 degrees out when I woke up, this is the coldest it has been yet for a morning this season. I got into the Vette and started her up and was suddenly surprised when my gas gauge read EMPTY. Thats not good I though, especially since I just put 18.1 gallons in it two days before, and hadn't driven it yesterday. Hmm.... well it's running, so something must be in there. Then before my eyes the gauge kept going up along with the range indicator just like i was filling my tank. Up up up up it went until it was full, and the range said 390 miles. Alrighty then!!!
....2nd order of business, 3/4 of the way to work I noticed my C68 unit (Electronic HVAC) was blinking on and off. Sometimes very quickly, sometimes a few seconds between. It was like power was being cut to it repeatedly. Very odd, since the heat was still working. Well about 35 miles into the trip to work it stopped doing that and all was back to normal.
Wierd huh? I'm hoping it was possibly just condensation on the electrical system somewhere thanks in part to the temperature drop last night. Everything was covered in large amounts of dew this morning.

Funny that you mention that. I had the same thing happen yesterday. I saw the reserve light-up and the range was 18 mi. when I started it up. After I started driving it to the gas station it went up past a 1/4 tank.
Re: [Electrical Gremlins]: Who loves em' (scorp508)
Hopefully a ground, but when mine did this it was the Cluster. The Cluster and the A/C Assembly lighting have a common ground in the left footwell (along with interior lighting, door locks, wiper switch and pass key - to name just a few - are any of these items acting funny also?) Or maybe is that pesky little Ambient Temperature Override switch which closes at 32 degrees and on your model year, grounds through the firewall to the engine block. I have no idea what it does, though my guess is that it shuts down the cruise control function which is controlled by the cluster. In any event, the firewall connection is subject to moisture and corrosion which is why GM rerouted it for the 89's.
Had a similar occurance this am too. The mileage range and the average mpg were all wacked. By this afternoon all is ok. I'm thinking that maybe condensation may have been involved since the temp was so low last nite (less than 30 deg). My 2 cents.
Re: [Electrical Gremlins]: Who loves em' (scorp508)
The display on the climate control unit isn't exactly attached to the power supply in the best of ways. The "hit it with a hammer" trick worked for a while, but I ended up replacing it.
Re: [Electrical Gremlins]: Who loves em' (-=Jeff=-)
Yep...gotta love those things...had similiar problems with the electronic climate control blinking like a **** AFTER the car warms up...the buttons still works fine but the temp numbers disappear and the whole thing flashes like crazy..this is my 2nd unit replaced(spilled soda on the first one, got buttons all stuck in there)..Ive just learned to live with it now.
Until it breaks and wont work at all, Im leaving it alone.

You gotta hit these block buster bombs jusssst right! I have one right now in my security system. The light blinks when the door is open but stops when I close the door exiting. The interior lights work and the sterio shuts down properly however so I don't think its the switch unless it has multiple wires with one not working. Any ideas? I hate these stock alarms!
