I'm in the process of replacing my intake manifold gaskets. The problem I have is with the passenger side intake runner ('86L). All the bolts are out, but I cannot pull it away from the plenum and intake manifold. The bottom appears to be hitting the EGR tube that runs along the valve cover -- I think thats what it is. Thoughts? I'm getting a little frustrated with it.
Though your EGR tube differs from that on my '88 I don't believe you should need to pull it to remove the RH runner. But, since you will be pulling the intake base anyhow, you may as well remove EGR tube at this time.
Remember that there is a Torx bolt in the inner front of that runner as there is a Torx bolt in the inner rear of the LH runner. BTW, I had to remove the EGR tube to allow me access with a Torx socket to the inner rear bolt holding the LH runner.
I suggest you pull the plenum before attempting to remove the runners.
Thanks for the quick reply. I have all the bolts off that runner, including the one on the back side. Looks like wanting to do the runners and then the plenum wasn't going to work for me... Out to the garage to try the plenum then runners.
