spare tire light ?

I have seen this light sitting down there but have never seen it go off.

What makes it go on ?

It is part of the courtesy light when you open the doors. When you shut it it takes a couple secs for it to go off.

Where is that light you are talking about? Is it on all C4's up to 96 or just some years?

hi there guys,
where you turn on the main light switch ,well on the side there is a lever that slights up and down!
when you turn the lever on it will bring the cabin lights and the spare tyre lights on!
well that is for 91-96 any way,not sure about 84-90 though!!!

yep, I have it on the 86 it's on if the headlights are on or if I open the rear hatch, probably on if the doors are open as well.

I love my spare tire light.
First time I noticed it I figured I had a bulb that had fallen out of somewhere and was hanging down. When I realized it was supposed to be there I thought....that's awesome.

If you ever need to replace the light housing by the spare, it's the same one that the C5 uses for a license plate light!!

Well it didnt go on when I opened the door.

Next ill check if they go on with the head lights.

Then the bulb.

I don't think it goes on with the door opening. The slide lever on the headlight switch will turn it on.

My '90 works in conjuntion w/ the interior lights... So, door open & inside lights on, its on. Same if I use the dimmer control to turn on the inside lights. A nice feature after dark for getting around the car if you happen to open/hold the door for your woman.
