Default Tool to remove Side Window Glass

The C4 side windows are held in with a bolt and a flat washer with two holes in it. I have heard of a tool to hold the flat washer while the bolt is loosened or removed. Anyone have an idea where I can purchase this special tool? Thanks in advance.

It's called a spanner wrench I believe. Not to be confused with what the englishmen call their tools.

So you are replacing the glass? You can remove the glass without pulling the studs off or it. I always go to mcmaster.com for obscure tools and hardware that I'll never find locally.

I have successfully used an angle grinder spanner, with liberal amounts of CRC...!
It is very difficult to remove them while the window is still in the car.
As CC said, you can remove the window without taking these off...

Angled needle nose pliers worked fine for me. As stated before, take the glass out of the door first by using the slots at the top to pull the studs through, then remove them on the bench. The stop in the early cars(/guide in the 93-96 cars) will need to be removed while its in the door IIRC.

My 89 model has always had an air leak (and water too) in the drivers side glass. The leak is in the front area by the rear view mirror. I have installed new door weather stripping (I used the GM good stuff) and the leak is still there. I think the glass of the door needs to be moved forward about 3/32 inch. In order to move the glass, I need to loosen those "washer nuts". I do not think the glass needs to be removed to make this adjustment. Any ideas would be appreciated.

You won't get much adj on those bolts, the holes in the glass don't leave much room for adj., though you may break the window. Just loosen the nuts and try to adj.,there should be enough adj on the plate holes. You may have to adj. it higher and then readj your stop.

Bruce: I am familiar with Channel Lock pliers, but not the spanner tool you mention above. Can you provide a little more info on what you used. Thanks, Bob

You don't touch those to adjust the window. You simply loosen the hex nut that threads onto it. The holes in the window regulator provides plenty of room for adjustment.
