Default Problem with Exotic Muscle Headers?

The shop which is installing my headers on my 93 C4 just called and wants me to come in and look at the installation before they cut the exhaust.

They want me to see it because they feel the O2 sensors are way to close to the fiberglass floor.

They claim they would not do it if it was their car.

They are worried about it getting so hot it could damage the floor.

I tried calling exotic Muscle but as usual all I get is thier answering
machine and they didn't call back.

Has anyone had a problem with the O2 sensors being so close to the floor?
Thanks
Herb

I am not familiar with those headers. I am running Hedman long tubes and I bought collectors with the o2 bung welded in. I can rotate the collector so the bung is where I want it. I don't know how that info will help you. Good luck

Default Not so bad as I was told!

Well I just came back from the shop and I have to say the Exotic Muscle headers look very nice both top and bottom.

I had to look twice because I thought the cats were just slid in the collectors without any clamps. You can't hardly see the clamps they match the headers so well.

I do see their concern though. The stock cats have heat shields and the Ren Techs do not. On the passenger side their is a shield attached to the floor but their isn't any on the drivers side. The cat on the drivers side is closer than the one on the passenger side.

Also, one of the tubes runs very close to the starter and I can see problems might occur.

The other place is the clutch slave cylinder. It also looks like it will have heat problems.

What if any solutions do you guys and gals do to prevent these possible problems? Fabricate plates? Header tape?

Thanks
Herb

I went without cats. I have their ceramic coated extensions. No trouble with heat here.

I've ran EM headers and Dynatech Powercats on my 94 for two years without any heat related problems.

I have EM hedders and RT cats on both of my Vettes and no problem with heat here, I did however make a sheald up to go around my starter just for a little protection

I'll be watching this thread as I have the same headers and I'm pondering whether to go with Random Tech Cats or just straight. The 02 sensor problem has me concerned as I thought they had the bung where it was supposed to be.

As long as the headers are installed correctly you'll have no problems at all. However if you want to compare your install with another you can send a private message to forum member Perfusion, he has some pics up of his EM headers and cats when the car was up on the lift. He's been running them now for a couple years (I think) with no issues. I honestly would not worry though, they have tight clearances but that's normal.

Default O2 sensors

On my install they appear to be located on top of the collector close to the floor.

Herbs shop, EFI emailed us some pics of the install. They have the extension tubes on upside down. The exhaust tangs on the extension tubes need to be located near the floor. The left side collector is being pushed out so that the o2 is hitting the floor. The reason for this is that the left side motor mount bolt was not flipped around as per the instructions. After talking with EFI they either could not find the Installation instructions or they got lost. As we instructed, they will need to remove left header to flip motor mount bolt and then pipes will then lay correctly.

They are free to call us any time for help.

Thanks,
Merle Hardy

Default Instructions!

I don't know what happened because I left them the instructions.

They said with all the problems they had ie sent wrong header, reinstalling headers etc. it took a lot of labor.

That's an understatement.

They charged me over $1,300.00 for the installation!!!!!!

It pays to let the local garage guy go with a warning instead of a ticket. He quoted me $185.00 to install the headers If I purchased the headers and brought them to him on a 95 vette.
