Default Question on LT4 Stock Dyno Numbers

Hey Guys,

I'm just trying to figure out what the stock Dyno numbers would be on an LT4 motor.

My CE is my 1st vette and I can't wait until it gets nicer out here to take her out to a Dyno. I just wanted the stock numbers so I know what to expect.

thanks!

Wow - that's a strong one. Mine did 297rwhp/311rwtq with a Corsa catback.

That sounds in line with what I've read.

I got 307 on one dyno and 311 on another....no changes, just different time of the year.
EDIT:Powertrain was bone stock.

Every dyno is different. eveyr dyno can be played with. every dyno has different corrections. Every LT4 is 11 years old so my best guess is anywhere from 265-320.

The real truth is that they were slightly overrated from the factory so they DO put out 340-350 at the crank when NEW.

Mine was close also. 298/310 on the 1st day, in june. The 2nd time I had it done was in March and 40 degrees in the shop. I ended up with 308/ 314. Same dyno but different temps.

Most LT4's dyno around 290-305........but these are not usually BONE STOCK........usually they have cat-back, K&N, performance tuning....

My three pulls were between 292-299.......short of the magic 300...this was with cat back, K&N, etc.

so I modded & went for 400 & fell short again at 385...

True BONE STOCK is probably more like 280 RWHP

Whatever the hp, the LT4 is one fantastic car-----enjoy

When I bought mine, it made 304 rwhp and 305 rwtq with a catback, K&N, & a tune. This was SAE corrected on a 95 degree day with 78,000 miles on the car. With that setup, 4.10 gears, and drag radials, it ran 12.60 in the 1/4 at about 109mph.

385 is a nice number.... I only have Corsa cat back... At least now I have an idea what to expect.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but what mods did you do to bring her up to 385 rear?

I failed to mention on my reply that mine was BONE stock as well as another member with an LT4 as well. He also pulled just about the same numbers give or take 2-5. I also had 51,000 on the the car. With your mods you should be getting better numbers. What kind of dyno were they using? Air temps? Most BONE stock numbers that I have seen are in the 290rwhp to 314 range. Dam great motor for sure.

My 311hp and 307hp pulls were on a bone stock motor, down to a stock air cleaner (housing and element)....I take that back; the stock mufflers had been replaced with Hooker Aerochambers.

I've always felt that some mods, like certain exhaust systems, the K&N, and... especially... a "performance tune", can actually take away power. Your experience is only one of the reasons I feel that way.

Those GM engine guys may not be as dumb as we like to believe...eh?

You can make a dyno read anything you want it to. Wouldn't it be tempting to cheat the correction a little if you were a tuner with a dyno looking for engine modification business?

Well I have yet to win the Lotto-----not real lucky...so my experience??

However in the April 1997 issue of Corvette Fever they installed the Hypertech Power Programer on a stock 1996 Grand Sport. The horsepower went from 281.9 to 291.4.------so their stock LT4 did 281.9 rwhp

Also before I bought my B&B exhaust in Sept 1997 B&B sent me dyno testing they did on a stock LT4 in May of 1996. The horsepower went from 276.9 to 287------so their stock LT4 did 276.9 rwhp

I was trying to find the LT4 catback shootout article, would be another source of dyno testing..but I do recall all the catback systems tested added around 9-12 rwhp...B&B being the highest

Not sure what to think.........

The question is not so much about the dynojet brand as it is about SAE. Did you get the SAE corrected sheet or the raw data graph? You know, one can print it out as desired.
