Hello everyone! This is my first "official" post so please be easy w/me.I have just purchased an 84 vette from a friend.Problem is,he had the motor pulled when i bought it so the block and heads are at the machine shop and everything else is in containers so it's a mess.So heres my dilema,I'm thinking of just putting a mildly built , carbed 355 i have at my shop into it.What would the mods be in order to get this sucker up and smoking the tires.Obviously i would have to pin the CFI wires back out of the way.Can i get "block hugger" headers to fit? The hooker super comps are just too expensive for a mild motor.Would the torque converter have to be changed? The cam i'm using is OK for stock converters so as far as size it's OK.Anyway,You guys get what i'm after .Before i catch grief over carbing this thing i just want to say that a carb already owned is cheaper than a FI unit purchased at the local parts store.IMO It would be easier for me to install the300hp/ 355 than to go through hell trying to figure out all the parts i have for the205hp. stock motor. Thanks!
I like carbs myself, but one word should stop you.

Won't be legal. My advice, do it right or don't do it. You will be chasing headaches forever.
When I was young and stupid I tried all the same kind of stuff and now that I am old and stupid, I just spend what it takes to make it right or I don't do it.
Yeah i really would like to have fuel injection but i think the CFI would give me too many problems in the long run.The car was a kinda impulse buy so my wife is really giving me a hard time about it and the carb for me is not a problem as far as tuning goes. She wants it running "yesterday" if you know what i mean.I live in Western North Carolina ,they don't have an emissions test anywhere around here so thats not really a factor for me
