Default Starter change

Changing the starter on my daughters 94 today. Any tips or advice??
Anything else have to be removed to get it out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's been a long time since mine was stock in that area. But I don't think you'll have any surprises, it should be pretty straightforward.

Use a 1/4" drive socket with a long extension and a 1/4-1/2" adapter to the ratchet to get at the 'inaccessible' bolt. The cat shield may have to 'deflect' a little too. Pull the starter mounting bolts first, then the wires are much more accessible. Take care to avoid mashing the knock sensor wires.
And disconnect the battery the very first thing.
Piece of cake to change.
Hope this helps.

I had a mishap with my new starter. I rebuilt the engine (also new flywheel) and took the perfectly good starter and turned it in for the core credit on a new starter. The starter gear clearance wasn't the proper distance from the flywheel teeth and the starter nose casing broke after 1000 miles. I brought it back and Napa couldn't refund or replace because it does say to have the proper clearance. They even showed me a picture from a chart and the break was identical. I have never ever checked clearances EVER and never ran into this problem. I have probably changed 3 million starters over the years and never had this problem. But now I know. They make shims that space the starter away from the block to get that clearance.
