Differential Carrier Bushing Replacement HELP !!!!
I thought if I removed the sleeve I could cut it out, but now I have a socket stuck in there. I am thinking about grinding it out, since I can't think of any other option. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Al
I drilled out most of the bushings until the rest of the bushing would push out, then I carefully cut the sleeve with a sawzall and it split apart, came out.
Dont try to force anything out with clamps, sockets or etc, unless you have a hydraulic press to push things out.Them rubber bushings have a way of fusing themselves with age.Drill as many holes as you can through the rubber if it is stuck and it will come loose.

Even my 15-ton press couldn're push it out. The rubber fuses to the metal then just expands when pushing on it.Drill a few holes in the rubber on each side of the center hole. Then you may be able to get your socket out.
Perhaps a balljoint install tool from Autozone will help. It's a big C-clamp with a cup on the end that will probably fit around the bushing.
The aluminum sleeve will have to be removed to put in a poly bushing, so don't worry about destroying it.
