im not sure about corvettes, but some vehicle seat belts are touchy and need to be pulled slowly, if that does'nt work, have they ever been swapped out? if they sit a little crooked they will not come out. other than that the tensioner may be worn out and need to be replaced. anyone else have an opinion?
on mine there is a place where they sewed a spot in it so that it wont retract to far so sometimes that place gets stuck and you have to pull kind of hard to get it through the top bracket. other than that sometimes its tempermental to get it to go all the way back in and out. just move it around.
There was a recall on seatbelts. I'm not sure if it covered 84 but on my 88, I brought it to the chevy dealer, they looked up the VIN and saw that the recall hadn't been performed on the car so they ordered me TWO sets of seat belts and installed them under the recall campaign. You might want to check with a dealer. As far as I know there is no statute of limitation on a "safety related recall. Mine were done 4 years ago which made it 15 years old.
Great info. To cover all the bases though, ask if the campaign covers BOTH belts. I had two different campaign numbers. One for the drivers side and one for the passenger.

from what I understand, all belt assemblies aren't automatically replaced. Only non working ones.
