Did I drive Dale Earnhardt's Corvette?
Here's the story...
Back in 1996, I worked for a QuikLube/Detailing Service/Used Car Lot in Kernersville, NC. http://www.timrobertsmotors.com We detailed cars for a car lot in Greensboro called Foreign Cars Italia. They sold Ferrari, Porcshe, used Vipers, Vettes, and pretty much everything else that goes fast. They even had a Porcshe 959 in the back. Me and another guy that worked at the QuikLube would go all the way to Greensboro to pick up the cars, drive them back, detail them, and return them for another car to clean. (I got to drive some sweet cars this way...'82 & '92 Ferrari, Turbo Porcshe, GMC Typhoon) Well, one day I get to work and there was a 94-96 Corvette sitting in the bay that was black on black with jet black tinted windows. Of course I figured it was from Foreign Cars Italia. Come to find out, it was Dale Earnhardt's personal Vette. He had sold it, traded it, or something, and Foreign Cars Italia had it. It was a six speed with aftermarket exhaust, lowered, headers, all the cool stuff and would flat fly. I drove it up to a local restaurant to taunt one of the owners who had a white Vette. I got it sideways leaving the parking lot...and that's what made me fall in love with the Corvette. Ever since then, I have wanted a Vette and I finally got my wish on September 6th, 2001. Anyway, Dale's vette wouldn't pass emissions inspection so we had to put a new downgraded exhaust and mufflers along with a catalytic convert. Also, all the tint had to come off for it to pass inspection too. What a shame! I probably would not have believed it all myself, but I know that Michael Jordan had a slant nose Porcshe on consignment(for the dealer to sell for him) in the showroom of Foreign Cars Italia. A lot of big time car dealing went on at that place. So, in fact, I owe it to Dale Earnhardt himself for giving me the fever for a Vette. Even if it really wasn't his Vette, which I believe it was, it's cool to know that I owe it all to Dale. R.I.P.
