Default Temperature sensors

Okay--I realize this is probably covered in parts in other posts but I figured it would be easier to get all the answers at one time in one post. My question is related to the temperature sensors and readouts for late model LT-1 (I have a 95).

I know there are two sensors--one at the front near the water pump and one on the block on the passenger side near the rear. There are also three different temperature readouts--one is analog and two are digital (coolant and oil temperature).

In addition to wanting to know which sensor feeds which output, how else are the outputs used for each sensor. Maybe the answer should be a sticky post since this seems to come up from time to time.

Thanks,

Doug

The sensor on the front of the water pump = digital guage and ECM connected. The sensor on the right head= analog guage and is not read by the ECM. This sensor is only a approximation & may not the actual water temp.
The oil temp sensor( at least on a 92 and should be the same as yours) is on the left side of the block low in the rear and damn hard to get to.

Thanks for the info. I wonder why two sensors were needed for temperature readout. Couldn't the one on the front also have fed the analog guage?

Good question. The ECM doesn't use the analog sensor at all. Maybe just a throw back to old school?
