Default LT1 heads on LT4?

I have the chance to get 2 sets of LT1 heads for free, I'm thinking maybe porting one and putting them on my LT4 (if they fit) or just selling both if they wont.

Any answers?

Unless you are willing to port the living hell out the LT1 heads, it's a performance loss. Guarenteed.

interesting, but they will bolt up...hrm.

I plan on porting the crap out of them, it would just be nice to do it to a free set and not run risk of messing up the stockers.

All in all, seems like a lot of work for not much gain, since the stock LT4 heads already have much better ports than the LT1 (you'd be lucky to even match the LT4 heads with self-ported LT1 heads)

But, the answer to your original question seems to be: yes, they will bolt on.

they wouldn't be self ported, I have 0 idea how to do it lol.

Well, so far with the expected gains I guess I'll try to sell them both and maybe get some LT4 heads and a cam

I don't have an LT1 intake....

Also, I just looked, theyre all messed up, bent valve gudes, one has a hack port job, I wouldn't feel comfortable selling them.

They will bolt up fine.

Ported LT1 heads will far outperform stock LT4 heads.

For a given amount of money, buying LT1 heads and porting them will far outperform buying LT4 heads and porting them.

But if you have an LT4, why bastardize the car? Get the LT4 heads ported.

oh well, like I said, theyre junk, I would only pick them up to take them to the recycler, I was hoping to flip them for a cam, but I wouldn't feel good selling them to anyone I would ever have contact with again.

My ported LT1 heads outflow stock LT4 heads by a large margin, FWIW.

I assume he means that because LT1 heads go for $200~ for a set and LT4 heads go for several times that amount. Obviously the ported LT4 heads would work better than LT1 heads ported to the same level. But worth that much difference were someone starting from scratch? Probably not. For the price of procurring some LT4 heads and then porting them, one would be better off to just start with good aftermarket heads. But if I were Mekanic and already had the LT4 heads, different story obviously. I'd port the s*** out of them and call it a day!

llyod has some great deals on terrific head and head/cam combos. If you were wanting Lt1 heads ported, I'd look his way.

I seriously doubt anyone will argue with that statement.

Very good ported LT4's vs very good ported LT1's both with 2.05 intake valves is worth about 20 peak cfm and about 10 cfm average increase. It's the average flow that really counts. That if you have the better LT1castings as I believe there are three different aluminum castings. Two for sure.

Trying to figure out why you don't port the LT4's and get it over with. Hopefully your not thinking you can do it yourself??!! If you don't know if it would be better or not.....it probably won't be. There's something to porting heads.

I am NOT thinking of doing the port myself, I'm just worried about messing up my stock heads, thats why I was thinking of porting out a set of LT1 heads I could have gotten for free, since the LT1 heads are junk, I don't know the route I want to do now.
