Default '94 LT1 Won't Start

'94, 6 speed, LT1. Turn the key any nothing. No starter engagement, nothing. Acts like when you try to start without pushing in the clutch. All lights, dash, indicators, head lights etc. come on strong with no issue of faint readouts so I ruled out a new 2 month old battery issue. I just had it into the dealership on Friday to have the intake manifold gaskets replaced, new coolant with flush, changed the oil (Royal Purple) and had the induction system serviced (Cleaning injectors etc.). Car was running great after I picked it up through the weekend and when I went out to start it up last night to put her away....NOTHING!!! What should I be looking for as a possible cause? Fuses, security system etc.

Did you ever have this happen before? Mine did that on occasion until it quit completely. Turned out it was the ignition switch not reading my key pellet. You might want to clean the pellet and try again.

Default Ha!

At least I am not the only one that it happens too. This is caused by the Passive Keyless Entry gremlin. Once this happens there are few ways to bypass it.

1) Disconnect battery for a few mins and reconnect (pain in the ****)
2) Take key out and open driver's door. Do not touch anything for approximately 4-6 mins. Put key back in and it should start.

3) Close door and sit in vehicle without touching anything for 10 mins. Then put key in and turn.

All three of these methods worked everytime for me. I replaced my battery in the vehicle and this stopped. When the battery drops just slightly, the keyless gremlin appears.

Hope it helps.

If its VATS, when it won't crank, you have to wait 6 minutes before the computer will allow another attempt. Then try your spare ign key as its pellet contacts aren't worn like your everyday key. When it won't crank, unplug the clutch safety switch and jump the switch. Measure the voltage on the jumper to ground and turn the ign to crank. You should see 12v and starter should crank. If 12v and no cranking, then the problem is with the starter or poor battery connection (clean cable lugs, bolts, and batt terminals). If no 12v, then you have a poor connection of the contacts in the ign lock cylinder to your ign key pellet or you have a defective start enable relay. Pull the hush panel above the drivers feet and find the 2 wires from high on the steering column that goes to a 2 pin connector. Unplug the connector, insert your ign key and measure the resistance across the wires from the steering column. It should be the same as your pellet and if above 13k ohms, then you need a new ign lock cylinder which has new contacts.

You don't have a Viper alarm system by any chance, do you?

My son had a similar problem last weekend on his 96 LT1 and it turned out to be his Viper system that wouldn't disable the starter interrupt.

No Jake I don't have a Viper system but I did take some of the other advise above and cleaned the key pellet and used the spare key to get her going again. Strange I tell ya, very strange!

Sounds like the key cylinder. Same happend to me except that when I attempted to start the "security" light would flash. Took several times to notice it. I thought that it was a dead battery as well and by the time I went to jump - wow it would start. "security" would cycle off and I was getting the cables.

Ended up replacing my key cylinder and of course - the keys. No problems since.

Good luck.

Go Irish,

Have you found the problem with the no start situation?
I have the same symptoms and it turned out to be the CCM.

What is the security light doing? If it's dark, forget about a VATS problem, and visit this thread for further assistance:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1667624

If the security light is active, you have a VATS issue. Report back to us about this and we'll help you from here.

Be well,
