I have been trying to get the top of my center console off/out so I can remove one of my broken seat switches. I have an 89 with a six speed trans. I pulled the plastic cover that goes around the heater controls and radio off. Then I pulled the top of the center console off revealing lots of screws and bolts underneath. I took off the glove box cover next,... I am pretty sure all the screws are out yet I can't seem to get the top of the center console off to get to the seat switches underneath. What am I missing???
Did you remove the felt inside the console? When you do that you will see 4 tabs that you have to remove. Under those tabs will be 4 bolts. I had the same problem till someone mentioned it.
sometimes removing the shift **** allows the ctr to come all the way off, be careful of the cig lighter, and the plastic part of the shift indicator when removing the console... they break easy.

unless i'm missing something here, and PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG (trying to do this from memory), but you shouldn't need to remove the 4 screws under the felt. that's only necessary when removing the console frame assembly. this shouldn't come into play to replace the power seat switch module. the seat switch module or assembly comes in thru and mounts to the side of the console frame assembly and is held in place by a small steel bracket a two small screws. assuming the wiring/harness is accessable, you will probably need to remove the console side trim - a lot of work, but not difficult. as for removing the upper console trim, something is hanging up. like one post said, gear shift ****, cigarette lighter, ???
