Default sys light dimming - aftermarket stereo

91 Corvette. After much search I pinpointed my issue. I get the sys light and the dash displays dim periodically. The car has an aftermarket radio in it, so I believe that is the culprit. I found this related article:

I know the solution is to put in the resistors. Can someone elaborate and tell me exactly where and how to install the 1k resistors. I look at the electrical diagrams and for me, it's like trying to read German. The only time I've ever used a resistor was to charge a car stereo capacitor. Not sure if that's the same type of resistor that I need.

I read that actually and it's not really straight forward for me, as it doesn't explain the color of the wires, etc. Any how I found this simple write up/fix at another forum and I hope it helps another simpleton like me:

Here it is:

If "SYS" is displayed in the LCD section of the instrument panel cluster after the customer installs a new (aftermarket) stereo, he will need to do the following:

1. Buy (2) 1 kilo-ohm 1/2 watt resistors. [Radio Shack part # 271-023. They sell them as a 2pk for .29 cents.]
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the receiver.
4. Connect one end of both resistors to ignition power. (Yellow wire in the car)
5. Connect the other end of one resistor to the purple/white wire in the car.
6. Connect the other end of the second resistor to the grey/black wire in the car.
7. Cover all connections and completely cover the resistors.
8. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
