...., ok well today I attempted to drop the valve body out of her. I say attempted because it would NOT fall down out of place. I drained it, removed the pan, removed the 7 bolts holding it in place, and she wouldn't budge. I tried my best to rock it down, but she didn't wanna go. Am I missing something? My manuals say that there is nothign else holding it in place. I'm assuming that the gasket is just REALLY tight and holding it on.
After playing with it for a bit, I decided to just bolt it back up before I hurt anything and come here for some more advice. I resealed it, bolted it all up, and refilled it with 1.75qt of Mobil 1 ATF fluid. I got the car almost completely level using a combination of jackstands and ramps today. So I got it all in there this time with very minor spillage at all.
I let it sit for a minute, got it off the stands/ramps, and took it for a ride. The shifting is now at least predictable. It used to just shift "sometime" after pressing the button. Whether that would be 5, 10, 30 seconds after you never knew. Now it is doing it about 5 seconds after you press the button each time. So at least it is a LITTLE better.
I think I'm going to try driving it this week, and pray that it sorts itself out after some usage. What is kind of strange though, is that the automatic kickdown in 4th, and upshift after you let off the throttle is pretty much perfect every time. It is when you manually do it that things get a little wierd.
I just looked at the service manual again and plain as day there it it! I looked straight into that hole when the pan was off and thought nothing of it. Tranny fluid was hanging from it dripping, so I didn't see the pattern of the allen head. Doh!! Looks like I'll do it again tomorrow.
If you want to do a full flush, put the rear wheels in the air and rotate them while feeding the pickup tube. This will manually turn the OD pump and flush out everything so you'll have pure clean fluid. When you get the valve body off, you can buy gasket material at the parts store. You want the thin stuff. Also, make sure you catch that ball that is SPRING LOADED. If when you take it apart, you forget what goes where, I've taken pictures ;) Good luck Scorpe and may the Force be with you. :smash:
Now when exactly does that check ball come flying out at you? I've looked at hte diagrams and know WHERE it is, but will it come out when I drop the valve body, or when I take that sucker apart?
There's a metal plate between the valvebody and case. Make sure you bring down the metal plate with the valvebody and it should bring the checkball and spring with it.
