87 Tach

Sent my dash cluster out to be rebuilt. Somehow between my place and repair shop tach crystal was cracked. Repair shop is willing to purchase a replacement but I seem to be having a hard time finding just a tach for a reasonable price. I have talked to a few other repair shops and they will sell tachs for a reasonable price IF you purchase their rebuild. These folks have to be purchasing their tachs from someone how else would they have them in stock? Cheapest one I have found so far $150.00, up to $225.00 but I see the same advertisements for replacement gauges for $90 if you give them an additional $149.00 for a rebuild. Anyone have any secret places to purchase just the tach LCD for around $100.00? I’d be willing to go a little over what they charge for replacement when you have them rebuild your cluster but when they want the same for the tach as a rebuild or more I think that is a little unrealistic? I understand they are in business to make money and I do not fault them for that, but I don’t think I should make this month’s car payment for their vette. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I highly recommend Jim Adams of WitchCity Engineering (witchcityeng@yahoo.com 978-335-4096) On my digital dash, he replaced both speedo and tach LCDs and lights, bypassed light sensor, cleaned, etc for $317 shipped.

I believe he sells the LCD panels outright also. Contact him. Highly recommened.

There use to to be some Buy it Now on ebay but they are gone. Will send an email to this one that was recommended and see what he has, thanks for the info.

Are you refering to Jim Adams from the previous post or another Jim from ebay?

I got the one off ebay and fixed my "sunburned" tach myself - while I was inside, I cleaned the light connections, works great now, wasn't that hard to fix - ebay # 280096045804
