Thanks, but it is the motor itself which is bad. A wire shorted, when it got pinched opening up. Don't ask me how, but if something strange can happen, it will to me.

I became so frustrated with trying to repair one of the motors on my 86that I was close to pulling my hair out.

So I boxed it up and shipped it to Corvette Central; for about $100 it was a done deal.

I didn't short a wire, but I had to rebuild my driver's side headlight motor after I broke one of the motor brushes in it.

I took it to an electric tool repair shop and they sold me new Bosch motor brushes and soldered a broken commutator wire back in place. I used a piece of emery cloth to sand the brush into place but it works fine now.

Are there any gotta's, when disassembling the motor or can you take the 2 screws out and pull the motor out.

Thanks!!

Well, you have to remove the housing cover to get to the bushings and worm gear but I wouldn't procede past that point unless it was absolutely necessary.

There is a tiny bearing about the size of a BB that rests at the end of the motor shaft. It's spring-loaded with a spring about the size of one found in ballpoint pens.

If it pops out while you're taking the motor apart, it'll be hell on earth to find.....and even more hellacious to replace.

I used tape on the arm and actuator link to keep them in their original position. I was worried about the motors spinning backwards if I hooked it up wrong.

It's really not too bad of a job. Just give yourself plenty of space on your workbench to lay everything out properly and TAKE YOUR TIME.

Print out all the links in this thread while you're waiting for your bushings to arrive and familiarize yourself with the steps.

It's not that hard, but the first side will probably take you longer than the other.
