Default 95 Vats Problems

I have a 95 and I am experiencing problems with the vats . I purchased a Vats By-pass module from Baker Eletronics. Based on their instructions I am unable to hook it up. Tech support is claiming that I actually have a 96 and they dont make a By-pass module for the 96. I find this very hard to belive since the vins shows and 95 and the car assembly sticker is 9/94. If so... anybody have a 96 and by-passed the vats?
All your imput is greatly appreciated.

99% of car thefts are done by bashing the column and jumping the ignition. When you bypass VATS, you open yourself up for an easy steal for thieves. Why don't you just replace the ign lock cylinder which will have new contacts that make connection to your ign key pellet. Most of VATS problems are caused by worn contacts in the lock cylinder.

Why can't you hook the bypass up? I did my 95, very easy to do just unplug the wire under the dash and plug in the bypass and give it 15 minutes to reset.

Sometimes you can just buy a new key and it will get you by for a while.
The resistor (pellet) in the key sometimes wears down and doesn't make good contact as said above. Could be the pellet in the key worn-sometimes the ignition switch VATS contacts.

If you really want to bypass the VATS I hope you have a good aftermarket alarm installed already.

What is the sense in disconnecting the alarm that GM put in the car and then buying ANOTHER alarm and installing it?
My 87 left me stuck at church about 6 years ago and I clipped a resistor to the 2 pin connector the lock cylinder contacts go to so I could drive it until a new lock cylinder could be installed. I haven't had a problem since and I drive it every day. I read a lot of posts complaining about VATS, and instead of fixing it, owners get more and more angry about their car not starting, discussing bypassing VATS, installing aftermarket alarms, installing underdash switches, hiring medicine men to dance and chant. FIX IT and get on with your life!

Thanks for your replys. I will be looking into the new lock cylinder.
I did switch to a spare key.
no plans on installing aftermarket alarm
not complaining about vats just trying to make the car start every time with out a doubt... be it vats by-pass or new lock cylinder just need it to be dependable. Thanks
