Default Cat converter ??

Are hi flow cats worth the money? I have a 94 LT1 w/ 98k.

Do they need to be changed? Will it really do anything?

Cause any problems??

Thanks.

YES! but some carry outrageous prices. Shop around, you can pay $30 up to $300. It's one of those things where you DON"T always get what you pay for.

No, not on an LT1. Your cats are pretty good in comparison to the L98.

I would not change them until/unless you go to longtube headers, in which case you'll probably have to for the headers to fit, or if you are having problems with the car that might indicate a clogged cat (loss of power).

Catco
FlowMONSTER
Magnaflow

I don't think there is anything wrong with them, but they are REALLY rusty and I think there could be a leak. Brittle rusty is some places.

If I have to replace them, I want them to be AS good or BETTER than the stock LT1 coverters.

Any brands, advice? The price range is crazy... $35 and up.

Thanks.

I used Magnaflow (Carsound) on my L98. Catco has a good rep. Check eBay there are usually better prices there. The $35 unit may be fine but you may need to weld them on. If they are brittle rusty outside they could be pretty crappy inside. I replaced mine at 48K. Make sure to leave you O2 sensors.

If you don't mind take a minute and fill out your profile.

If your LT1 is stock at 300chp you need 660cfm of total exhaust flow or >330cfm per side and so per cat. If you plan to mod your LT1 I suggest looking for ~450 cfm of flow from each cat.

So, when selecting a cat, look for:
->330cfm flow
-fit to the front Y & in the space available
-best price

I have found the MagnaFlow universal on Ebay for $65 each. I don't mind welding them on, in fact I would prefer that.

Are these ok? Good price?

Thanks.

Default Also...

What about these:

http://flowmonster.com/mm5/merchant...._Code=metallic

They have a metallic substrate instead of the ceramic at a good price, but never heard of them until I started looking.

Thanks.

Those look similar to my Dynatech PowerCats, and are cheaper. That's the cheapest I've seen a metallic substrate bullet cat.

Ok,

So here is the stupid question. What is the size that I need? I have factory ones on now. What is the piping size factory on a 1994 LT1 base coupe?

Thanks.
