Default C4 Spring Applications

Can anyone tell me if there is a model year break down that different springs from different model C4s will not fit? I'm aware of the different base and Z51 spring rates, but am curious if all model years (1984-1996) are interchangable.

Thank you for any assistance you may offer.

1984 - 1996 Suspension Chart, Courtesy Hib Halverson

The rear springs interchange across all years. Front springs fall into
two generations: 84-87 and 88-96, I believe.

At least one member has stated several times that there are some
discrepancies in the chart, but these have not been detailed
anywhere to the best of my recollection.

It is good enough for my purposes.

Great referance chart, but one issue I caught. Base model 1984 has a stiffer rear spring than the front spring just doesn't quite click. And a question ... does anyone know the spring rate for a spring with code BMA?

Thanks. But on ZIP I get a message that front springs fits all models. see link. So therefore a bit confusing

Here's something many people don't understand... as there are early C4's and late C4's, the later lower control arms have changed so that the spring pocket location is a little different, and the overall length is different. This changes two things with regard to front springs. The early springs are about 1/2" longer througot the arc of travel, so they would bind in certain positions on later control arms. The later springs and spring spec can be used on the earlier control arms with no issues, and this is why the VB&P and Van Steel springs fit all years. Second, the wheel ratio is more on later models (less leverage meaning softer effective spring rate sort of speak, due to longer overall control arm and shorter overall leaf spring pocket location).

Another issue is weight of the car. The 1984-85 and early 1986 cars had 60 more lbs in the front, so those springs will ride high on the lighter cars. Convertibles are also heavier, and also ride a little higher, so they will ride high on coupes. rear is easily adjustable, front is more difficult.

That should clear up some of the common misconceptions posted here.
