Default '92 LT1 fan set point change ?

I think I have heard that there may be two different ways to change the fan set points on the '92 to '96 LT1 C-4's. The first is the reprogramming option; the second is by using a different sending unit to "trick" the fans into coming on sooner.

It is that second method I am interested in learning more about. Does any one have experience with or sources for the replacement sending units?

I understand the LT1 motor has two sending units - one for the the digital gauge and one for the analog gauge, and that one of them controls the fans. Which one controls the fans, and how hard is it to replace? Hopefully it would be the one for the analog gauge, as I like to use the digital display while driving and keep it set on coolant temperature.

So -

Which sending unit to replace?
Sources?

Thanks!

Hypertech Power programmer's are expensive for only doing one task....
changing temps that the fans come on at.

Solution to your problem is, purchase a "used" Hypertech Programmer", reset your fans and resell it. I purchased one for $87.00.---used it to reprogram the fans and then resold it for just over $100.(ebay).

You can also purchase a manual switch to bring the fans on when you want. Ecklers sells the switch cheap.

You can purchase a chip from "pcmforless" that will do the same.

Once you use it to reprogram YOUR car, it is useless to the next guy unless you set your back to stock. When buying a used one be sure to ask if it was returned to stock. Hypertech wont help you if it wasn't so you waisted your money.

Yep, that's how Hypertech works.
It stores a modified program in the unit, and all it does is swap it's program for yours (after reading your VIN number into it's memory). From that point on, the only program in the unit is your old one. The unit will not work on any other car now.

To make it work on another car, you have to return your car back to it's stock program.
