Newbie here, and I have a couple stupid questions about my brake pads. I just changed the front pads on my car for the first time, I got carbon metallic pads at Autozone. There are 4 little spring clips in the box and I'm not sure exactly how to install these as there aren't any on my car now. The other question is after installing, when I spin the rotor, should I hear a little contact between the pads and the rotor? Or is there supposed to be clearance and no contact? What makes the inner pad retract? Thanks for all the help. :flag
what year car. If its an 88 and up, one clip is pad wear indicater that goes on top of inner pad. The other two are bias springs the go on the bottom ends of thepads
The 4 black clips are the anti-rattle clips... they go on the bottom of each brake pad towards the retaining pin... here is a pic of where they go. Note: Don't look at the pink arrow, the clips can be seen on the opposite end by the retaining pin.
(Thank Glock 94 for the pic :) ) If you don't put them in ,you will get a clunking/rattling sound from the front. The pads should always make some contact with the rotor... but not much, the rotor should still be able to be spun by hand.
